Sport and Physical for Disabled people in Sheffield
Activity Disability Sports Network
The function of the network is to develop a clear agenda and action plan to coordinate provision across organisations to ensure that people are not working in isolation.
The network would also be responsible for;
Keeping abreast of funding opportunities
Writing bids when opportunities arise;
Providing information and support to those who want to set up a new club, as well as networking opportunities and training for volunteers and;
coordinating the marketing of what is on offer from different organisations across the city. It will also support clubs and activities that are already taking place across the Sheffield.

Who’s Involved
My name is Dawn Wood, I am extremely proud to be associated with Move More and Sport and Physical Activity for Disabled people in Sheffield.
I work three days a week as a P.E teacher for Links School Sport Partnership, within the cluster of ‘Special’ Schools in Sheffield and one day per week as the Disability Officer for Sheffield City Trust, working closely with Gareth Hayden, Sport Development Manager at Sheffield City Council. These roles enable me to improve, engage and involve disabled people in sporting opportunities, which I find to be a most rewarding and fulfilling experience. I am passionate about supporting and making a difference to the lives of disabled people in Sheffield and over the last 30 years I have had the opportunity to get to know many wonderful Adults, Children and families that have attended local Disability Sports Clubs.
Disability Sport in Sheffield - A quick history
The charity Within Reach was formed in 2010 by Michael Elliot who worked in partnership with Sheffield City Council to secure funding from Sport England to support a range of disability sport and physical activity projects across the city. During this period over 7,000 people engaged in hundreds of activity sessions and his lasting legacy will be that many of the Sports Clubs that he set up are still in existence across the City. Following Michael’s retirement, the Disability Sport Network has been developed to continue his incredible work of progressing disability sport and physical activity provision across Sheffield.
